Movie Review: “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”

I have been freaking out about this movie since I learned about it. My first reaction was EEEEEEP. I could not wait. Then I learned that it would feature Ben Affleck as Batman, and I wanted to curl up and scream at the injustice of it all. Ben Affleck as the only superhero that counts was blasphemous. I could NOT forgive or forget the wreck that was his portrayal of Daredevil.

Some friends of mine were in accord with my thoughts but there was one friend who believed that Ben would do Batman justice. I completely forgot how much BA had grown since his Daredevil fiasco, what an incredibly talented director he had become and an equally fantastic actor. After watching Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Ben Affleck’s portrayal of my favoritest superhero, Batman/Bruce Wayne was perfectly executed. He has totally blown me away with his performance. Simply put Ben made me swoon all over. I was a puddle of mush at his feet.

Before I get to the details or rather my gushing over him, lemme clarify again, in case there is still any confusion about why I love Batman. Why for me he is the ultimate superhero. First, he doesn’t have any superpowers like the other superheroes. He is like you and me. He is human. He uses his god given intellect and smart to forge ahead and take down the bad guys. How can you not swoon over such a guy? He is one of the awesomest strategists in the history of comic books, just watch Justice League & JL Unlimited, if you don’t believe me. He gives me hope that each of us can make a change, can be more than we are; and help make our world a better place. We don’t have to wear a cape to make a difference; we just can stand up against injustice and corruption and be there for the ones who are vulnerable or innocent.

Since its television or theatre debut, there have been a few variations of Batman. First there was the comic/cartoony version of yesteryears, which I did enjoy as a kid but as I grew up not so much. Then I had a stroke watching Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever. HE made Bats wear a suit that had NIPPLES!!! Gaaaah. WHO DOES THAT? Simply put I hated that with a passion. Even Val Kilmer could not save the movie with his yummy self. And then there was Tim Burton’s Batman with Michael Keaton, which was another favorite of mine. I love all things Tim. Love his quirky take on movies. It was totally different from the cartoony version. After that I fell head over heels for Nolan and Bale’s realistic version of the Dark Knight of Gotham. It totally blew the movie out of the superhero/comic book genre. Bale’s portrayal of Batman was my ultimate favorite and I totally geeked out on Bale.

I have loved and hated some of the Bats as you can tell but until recently I can honestly say I have not loved any of the previous Bats as much as I love the current Bats. I didn’t know I would irrevocably hand over my heart to Ben Afflect’s Bruce Wayne as he ran into chaos that strikes Gotham when Superman and General Zod fights and that fight spills over into Gotham. I have never been so happy to be proven wrong. Ben’s portrayal of Bruce and Batman was equally good and it was perfectly executed. He wasn’t the suave and drunk millionaire playboy of Bale, he was the older and more jaded and darker version of Bale’s Bruce.

I know a lot of people haven’t accepted the movie for what it is but I totally do. I freaking loved it. I know the plot was a little convoluted and confusing at times. I do agree that the plot was not 100% perfect but I loved the twist and turns that Snyder introduced in the story. I had loved, loved what he did with Man of Steel and I loved what he did to this movie. So your friendly neighborhood Geek in Pink declares to the world yet again that Ben Affleck is the perfectest Batman/Bruce Wayne ever. I cannot wait to watch it again.
